Work will begin Monday on a project intended to make the Sunnyvale Caltrain Station safer for passengers.
Caltrain announced this week that its project will involve relocating the north pedestrian crossing 83 feet to allow a six-car train to load and unload at the station platform without blocking the existing pedestrian crossings.
Crews will also update concrete surfaces at the station that have become uneven and pose a potential tripping hazard, according to Caltrain.
Construction will occur during the day, so there’s a chance neighbors may be impacted by noise and light.
Because of the work, the southern bike car on all southbound trains will not be accessible for boarding or deboarding at the station starting in April and lasting for about eight weeks. Passengers with bicycles will be asked to board the northern bike car instead.
The project is estimated to cost $750,000 and will be covered by a combination of local and Caltrain funds. It’s expected to be completed in the fall, Caltrain says.
