Two hundred artists in just about every category of art–from painting to sculpture, jewelry, fiber art, ceramics, glass and photography–will be showcasing their skills at the annual Saratoga Rotary Art Show. This year, the event is going back to being a two-day affair and will be held May 4 and 5 at West Valley College.
“We Rotarians are proud of the 58 years of tradition that this art show represents,” said James LeBlanc, who’s chairing this year’s event, considered to be one of the largest juried art shows on the West Coast. He estimates that proceeds from the show have returned more than $2 million to local organizations. “This is why we can proudly call this show ‘the art show that keeps on giving.’ “
The show will offer plenty of art for attendees, and proceeds from every purchase will go toward the Saratoga Rotary Charitable Foundation, which supports various causes through a grant process. Although there is a core group of artists who participate every year, about 30 percent of the artists are new. In addition to the 200 professional artists showing their works, there will be a display of more than 300 pieces of children’s art from more than 30 area schools.
Aside from art, the show will offer children’s activities, 10 gourmet food trucks, wine tasting from six wineries, a silent auction and classic car display.
The first art show was held in September 1959 with 20 artists and raised more than $500. Last year’s event was attended by about 30,000 people.
The art show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in lot 4 at West Valley College. Admission to the show and parking are free. For more information about the Saratoga Rotary Art Show, visit saratogarotary.organd click on “art show” under links.
