Berg to interview Harari during May 25 program at Foothill Club

By Khalida Sarwari

A computer storage consultant and the co-founder of SanDisk will come together at the Saratoga Foothill Club on May 25 to discuss how Silicon Valley enabled the mobile computing revolution.

Hosted by the Saratoga Historical Foundation, the presentation will cover the origins and progress of the mobile computing revolution, from its start at Bell Labs in New Jersey in the 1940s, to the birth of Silicon Valley in 1956 and the series of inventions that have transpired from Sputnik and the creation of the first Silicon Valley startup.

Brian Berg, a computer storage consultant, will lead the talk and also interview SanDisk co-founder Eli Harari. Harari, who resides in Saratoga, received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Obama in 2014 for his innovations and contributions to flash memory storage solutions. The medal is the highest honor the president can confer to a U.S. citizen for achievements in the field of technology.

During the presentation, Berg will highlight the importance of “Moore’s Law” in an environment of start-up companies and the role that Harari’s inventions have played in enabling today’s handheld devices, such as cameras, smart phones, USB drives and other technological devices. Coined in 1965 by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore, Moore’s Law is the observation that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits has doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented, a growth trend that Moore predicted would continue for the foreseeable future.

The lecture is free for Saratoga Historical Foundation members and $5 for non-members.

The program starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Foothill Club, 20399 Park Place, Saratoga. It will be preceded by a potluck at 6:30 p.m.
