The Campbell Police Department is urging the public to be wary of purchasing Apple items that were stolen last week from a Fry’s Home Electronics store on Hamilton Avenue.
A cache of items was stolen on Aug. 8 from the business, including iPads, iPods and iPhones collectively valued at more than $163,000, said police. Burglars made off with the items around 12:15 a.m.
Investigators believe the items may start showing up for sale on websites such as eBay and Craigslist. People are advised to be cautious of purchasing the items from individual sellers and locations other than storefront retailers.
The risk of receiving stolen property through individual online sales is high, according to police. The receipt and possession of stolen goods is a crime for which a person can be arrested.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Police are investigating the burglary with the assistance of Fry’s Loss Prevention and the regional Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team, or REACT, task force.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the police department’s investigations unit at 408.866.2184. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers tip line at 408.947.7867.
