A California Highway Patrol officer was injured on Saturday when the patrol car he was sitting in was struck by another vehicle on state Highway 17 near Scotts Valley.

The accident, which involved 26-year-old Officer Clifford Inman, 26, happened at about 10:35 a.m. on southbound Highway 17 north of Glenwood Drive, CHP Officer Sarah Jackson said.

She said Inman was at the scene of an earlier two-car crash and was waiting in his patrol car in a turnout area when a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 23-year-old Los Gatos man went off the roadway and crashed into the patrol car.

Jackson said it appears the driver of the Chevrolet failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the car. He was not cited or arrested.

She said the rainy conditions may have contributed to the crash.

Inman was taken to Dominican Hospital with minor injuries, and has since been released.

No injuries were reported in the first crash.
