Saratoga turns 60 this year, and it has never looked better. The city will celebrate its milestone birthday with fanfare later this year.
A parade is planned for Sept. 17 along Big Basin Way, complete with floats, musical ensembles, schools, car clubs, civic organizations and animal groups. At least that’s what the 60th anniversary hometown parade committee have in mind. The committee is inviting residents as well as local organizations to participate in the parade and represent the various aspects of Saratoga and its surroundings.
“We’re hoping for enthusiastic support from the public and envision participation from not only organizations but individuals, as we need special talents, historical figures and volunteers,” said chairwoman Renee Paquier. “This special anniversary parade is an opportunity to acknowledge the full breadth of the citizens, charms and joys of Saratoga.”
Earlier this year, the city council allocated $7,000 from the city’s discretionary fund for this event.
Saratoga was incorporated in 1956 to avoid being annexed to San Jose. The city was named in 1865 after Saratoga. NY. Previously, it sported the names Bank Mills and McCarthysville.
Groups or individuals interested in participating in the parade are asked to fill out an entry form and a liability disclaimer. To obtain the form, contact Marlene Duffin at 408.997.7528 or marlduffin@aol.com.
There is no entry fee to join, and the parade is open to all.
