Community organizers in Saratoga, take heed: The community event grant program application process is officially open. If you want a chunk of the $40,000 the city is planning to dole out for community events this year, now is the time to apply.
The grant program allows organizers to request grant money for events that are held in Saratoga and are open to the public. The Saratoga City Council voted last month to allocate $40,000 in grants for the 2018-19 fiscal year, money that organizers can use to cover their expenses, which can include everything from event materials and supplies to contract services, permits and city-related fees such as park rental or permit costs.
The applications went live on Jan. 17, but don’t fret, there’s still plenty of time to apply. Organizers have until the end of the workday on March 7 to submit their applications, which will be brought before the council for consideration on March 21.
In making its decision, the council typically gives highest priority to Saratoga-based nonprofits planning an event in the city intended to bring the community together and establish an identity for the city. Organizers are required to demonstrate that they can produce an event for which they can manage the costs, attract attendees and obtain any necessary permits and other authorizations in a timely manner.
Although the city is setting aside $40,000 in funding for community events, about half of that has already been earmarked for a number of organizations and events, including the Blossom Festival, Chamber of Commerce events, Fourth of July Celebration, Memorial Day Observance, Saratoga Community Band events and Saratoga Village Development Council events. Applications may be faxed, mailed, emailed or dropped off at Saratoga City Hall by 5 p.m. March 7.
