It wouldn’t be Easter without a proper egg hunt. And on March 30 children and their families are invited to Saratoga’s Wildwood Park to search for 3,000 hidden eggs as part of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows’ fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Aside from the egg hunt, which will kick off around 11 a.m., there will be host of other activities, including face painting, three-legged races and limbo dancing. During the event, Saratoga’s community librarian, Gayathri Kanth, will stop by to read stories about Easter and spring to the little ones. To add to the fun, there will be DJ music and twisted balloons.
The event will also be an opportunity to take photos with the Easter Bunny himself. Those who want a photo are encouraged to bring their own camera.
The egg hunt will be open to anyone under age 12, but children can bring along an older sibling to help.
Organizers expect 75 to 100 people to attend. The egg hunt is a service project for the community, said Kim Palmos-Weikel, chairwoman of the event and member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The organization is a Saratoga-based nonprofit that recently celebrated the 100-year anniversary of its Odd Fellows home. The group’s focus is on charity work, especially helping the sick, elderly and poor and educating youth.
“We have plans to reach out to the community more, and the egg hunt is a start,” Palmos-Weikel said. “We’re trying to reach the children.”
The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and last until about noon. The event is free and open to the public. Those who are interested in participating in the egg hunt are asked to bring their own baskets.
Wildwood Park is at 20764 Fourth St. in Saratoga.
