The Campbell City Council approved two contracts for its non-sworn public safety officers and other city employees at a July 3 meeting. Those contracts will expire in 2014.
As part of the contracts, employees will receive a 2 percent pay increase in July and a 2 percent increase in 2013. There are about 77 employees under the two contracts.
The contract with the Campbell Municipal Employees Association covers about 55 employees, including those in the planning, building and engineering departments. Under the contract, employees will receive a $50 monthly stipend starting in January 2013 toward their medical expenses and seven furlough days each year, in addition to the salary increase.
The furlough days are equivalent to a 2.7 percent salary reduction, said Campbell human resources manager Jill Lopez.
The $50 health benefits stipend will help offset employees’ medical expenses, which are increasing under the California Public Employee Retirement System by about $50 a month, according to Lopez.
The council approved a similar contract for the Campbell Police Civilian Employees Association, which represents about 22 non-sworn employees in the police department, including community service and code enforcement officers, police records representatives and dispatchers.
The council also approved a resolution outlining similar terms of employment for about 29 unrepresented employees. The unrepresented employees consist of 25
mid-managers and department heads, including the finance manager and city engineer and four confidential positions, which include human resources representatives and the assistant to the city manager.
Negotiations with the two unions took place between April and June.
In December the council approved a three-year contract for the city’s police officers.
