The Summer Movie Nights outdoor movie series returns to Saratoga’s El Quito Park on June 19, kicking off with the computer animated film “The LEGO Movie.”
The Saratoga Parks and Recreation Commission plans to show two more family friendly movies on the third Friday of every month through August. Admission to all the movies is free.
The July 17 screening will be “Wreck-It Ralph” and Aug. 21 will be “Big Hero 6.” All three movies are rated PG. The city has traditionally selected movies considered to be appropriate for both younger kids and the pre-teen and teenage group.
Each movie is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. Organizers encourage people to come around an hour prior to the show to enjoy a snack in the park and entertainment by Dottie the Clown. People are welcome to bring their own food, as well as blankets or lawn chairs.
This will be the fifth year that the Saratoga Parks and Recreation Commission will be holding its Summer Movie Nights series. According to city officials, the event serves to build community among residents. For the first time last year, attendance doubled from an average of 150 in previous years to around 300.
This year, the commission is teaming up with Roku, a local company that’s sponsoring the entire series along with a few other businesses that are donating snacks. In the past, the city used allocated funds to pay for the events.
The Summer Movie Nights series will be held June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21 at El Quito Park, 12855 Paseo Presada, Saratoga.
