Both directions of state Highway 85 in San Jose are blocked this afternoon after a bank robbery suspect crashed while attempting to flee from police.

The crash happened around 11:40 a.m. on northbound Highway 85 just south of the connector to northbound state Highway 87, according to police.

Officers arrested one suspect at the crash scene and a second suspect at the Gunderson High School campus, located at 622 Gaundabert Lane, where he had fled on foot, police said.

Gunderson was placed on lockdown for about half an hour, but the lockdown was lifted at about 12:30 p.m., according to a teacher at the school who requested not to be named.

“Everyone’s fine. The kids are out at lunch,” she said.

The suspects were wanted for a robbery at the Bank of America at 5615 Snell Ave. in San Jose, police said. Police received calls about the robbery at 11:36 a.m.

Traffic on Highway 85 is being diverted onto the Santa Teresa Boulevard exit.
