The exterior of a house in Fremont caught fire today because the residents disposed fireplace ashes in a plastic garbage can outside, according to the Fremont Fire Department.
Firefighters responded around 12:41 p.m. to the house at 40002 Catalina Place and witnessed a large amount of smoke emanating from the right side of the house, fire officials said.
One side of the exterior of the house and part of the fence caught fire.
They extinguished the flames approximately 15 minutes after the initial call, fire officials said.
The fire caused about $10,000 in damage to the exterior of the house. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
