They’ve worked hard all year, putting on production after production. Now, Leigh High School’s best and brightest drama students will put their talents on display one last time at their spring showcase.
Titled Scribbles and Scaredy Cats, the hour-long show will feature nearly 30 students performing two student-written children’s shows. In between the pieces, students will also perform snippets from various musical theater shows.
Scribbles, written by Leigh sophomore Kimi Scheifer, is a story about a brother and sister who fight constantly but are bonded over their love of drawing. The show depicts their drawings coming to life when they go to sleep. The second piece, Scaredy Cats, was written by junior Vaughn Mayer and tells the story of five students who are confronted by bullies that challenge them to a dare game.
Drama teacher Brian Ringstead is the director.
“Throughout the scenes the kids learn it’s not nice to be mean to others to make yourself feel good or make your friends like you more,” said student Katie Beth Sramek, who plays Ty, one of the bullies in the show.
For Sramek, a senior, this last show will be a “bittersweet ending” to her drama experience at Leigh.
Despite a shaky year in 2011, Sramek said, “We really left a good platform for the incoming classes to jump off of.”
Performances will be held at Leigh High School May 17-18, 7 p.m. each day. There is a suggested donation of $5.
