A 22-year-old man who was arrested by U.S. marshals in Modesto this week in connection with two armed robberies in San Jose last month was arraigned today on eight felony charges.

Thadias Washington-Orlando, of San Jose, was arrested on a warrant, police said on Wednesday. He is being held at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Today, he was arraigned on one count of attempted homicide, three counts of second-degree robbery, three counts of a felon in possession of a firearm, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Lisa McCrary, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stem from two incidents in December, said police, after detectives, believing that Washington-Orlando had left the San Jose area, turned the case over to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The first robbery occurred on Dec. 7 at a 7-11 store in the 1500 block of Branham Lane.

The second robbery, involving a man Washington-Orlando had allegedly contacted on Craigslist,

took place on Dec. 8. Police said Washington-Orlando met the victim in the 2900 block of Nieman Boulevard to conduct a transaction and then shot the man in a botched robbery.

The victim survived, police said.
