The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety today announced the arrest of a man in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a 72-year-old man earlier this month.

Gordon Lee, 39, was arrested on a $500,000 warrant at his home in Sunnyvale on the afternoon of Jan. 19, police said.

Lee is suspected of hitting Benjamin Lin shortly before 6 a.m. on Jan. 5 as he was crossing Reed Avenue in a crosswalk.

Lin, a Sunnyvale resident, was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators identified Lee as the suspect who struck and killed Lin and fled afterward.

Police have seized his black SUV.

He is free on bail, but is awaiting a Feb. 5 arraignment on charges of hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, police said. A district attorney’s office spokeswoman was not immediately available to confirm the charges.
