Oakland police have nabbed a man they say shot at a police officer, but didn’t injure him, during a foot pursuit in East Oakland early Friday morning.

The man, who authorities declined to identify, was taken into custody Friday evening following a multi-agency search that involved deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened a little after 3 a.m. Friday in the 2300 block of East 17th Street where the officer was investigating suspicious activity. According to police, the officer tried to stop a man, but he fled on foot. During the foot chase, the suspect fired a shot at the officer but missed, police said. He was able to escape, but during the subsequent search police found a gun they believe was used in the shooting.

The officer did not shoot at the suspect, police said.

Police said additional information, including the suspect’s identity and charges against him, would be released after the case is reviewed by the district attorney’s office.
