The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified a man who died Friday morning after his car went off a highway ramp in Milpitas as 52-year-old William Marquez.

The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on a ramp from Calaveras Boulevard to westbound state Highway 237.

Marquez, a Milpitas resident, was driving a white 1991 Toyota pickup in the far left lane at about 35 mph when he lost control of the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Toyota went off the roadway onto a dirt embankment and overturned onto its roof. Marquez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the CHP. Marquez was wearing his seatbelt.

The left lane of the ramp was closed for about two and a half hours as the CHP investigated the crash.
