A man’s body was discovered in unincorporated Watsonville on Thursday, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, Santa Cruz County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Campos said.

Deputies were called at 10:07 a.m. Thursday to the 300 block of Casserly Road where they located a badly decomposed body in a wooded area.

An autopsy conducted Friday determined the body was that of a man between 18 and 25 years old and about 4 feet 8 inches tall.

The autopsy found the man had died violently roughly two to four weeks earlier, but Campos declined to release the cause of his death.

The sheriff’s office is investigating whether the man died at the location where his body was discovered or elsewhere.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the investigation division at (831) 454-2311, the anonymous tip line at (831) 454-2847, or sheriff’s dispatch at (831) 471-1121.
