An Oakland man died following a scuba diving excursion near Point Lobos on Sunday, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Andrew Witkin, 58, was found unresponsive on the ocean floor in water about 50 feet deep, sheriff’s officials said.
He was brought to the surface and transported to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m. Sunday.
An autopsy was scheduled for today.
