Police arrest Antioch man suspected of possessing stolen property after he shoots himself with stolen gun

A 28-year-old Antioch man was arrested in Milpitas over the weekend on suspicion of possessing stolen property after he accidentally shot himself in the leg with a stolen gun, police said.

Officers responded around 2:05 p.m. Saturday to a report of a person shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Dixon Landing Road.

They arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound to his right leg. It was initially reported that an unknown gunman had shot the man, but officers found out the man accidentally shot himself, police said.

The man, identified as Alejandro Jose Perez, was treated at a hospital and then released to police custody.

Officers found the gun he had shot himself with and discovered it was stolen from another jurisdiction, according to police.

Perez was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm by a person with a prior felony conviction, delaying a police officer, violation of probation, and a warrant for being a passenger in a vehicle and possessing an open alcoholic beverage container.
