Gilroy police are investigating a murder-suicide Sunday night that involved a San Jose police sergeant.
The sergeant, identified as Christopher Shimek, 51, and a 43-year-old woman, were found dead around 9:40 p.m. at a home in the 9400 block of Rodeo Drive in Gilroy, police said.
Shimek had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. They were the only people at the home.
Officers were dispatched the home at the request of family and friends of Shimek and the victim, who were worried about their loved ones after not being able to contact them, police said.
Shimek was a 16-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department.
The woman’s name has not yet been released.
