Mountain View police this week arrested four people on suspicion of pistol-whipping a Sunnyvale teenager inside his RV in what appeared to be a gang-related attack.
A 16-year-old Mountain View boy told responding officers on July 12 he was nearly attacked twice that day by people in cars, once as he was walking near Ortega Park and again in the parking lot of Rengstorff Park, according to police. Both times the cars — A Honda and a Chrysler — eventually drove off and the teen later went to a family member’s RV on Crisanto Avenue. There he discovered blood and signs of an attack, police said.
Investigators found the victim of that attack, a 19-year-old Sunnyvale man, at a local hospital where he was being treated for injuries to his hands and face. He told police two people barged into the RV and repeatedly hit him in the face with pistols.
The first three arrests were made on the morning of July 14 after officers spotted the Chrysler associated with the attempted attack near Ortega Park, police said.
They stopped the car on the 2000 block of California Street and arrested two 16-year-old males and 18-year-old Cesar Rosas. Officers recovered two guns from the Chrysler that matched those involved in the RV attack.
The fourth suspect, 19-year-old Alberto Ibarra-Vallejo, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday afternoon on the 1000 block of Space Park Way. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm and gang enhancement.
One of the teens and Rosas were arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, brandishing a firearm, making terrorist threats, carrying a concealed firearm in a car, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle in a public place, receiving stolen property and possessing high capacity magazines. Rosas also faces gang enhancement charges.
The second teen was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm inside a car and a loaded firearm inside a vehicle in a public place, police said.
