An elementary school in Sunnyvale remains on lockdown this morning after a threatening call was made to the school’s office this morning, a school district official said.
The principal of San Miguel Elementary, located at 777 San Miguel Ave., received the threatening call shortly after school started for the day at 8 a.m., Sunnyvale School District Assistant Superintendent Mike Gallagher said.
The call was reported to police around 8:20 a.m. and the school was placed on lockdown.
As of 10:50 a.m., Sunnyvale public safety officers had searched half of the roughly 25 classrooms on campus, Gallagher said.
He said children are being kept in their classrooms and no injuries had been reported this morning.
Gallagher said parents who want to pick up their kids should go to Fair Oaks Park.
The park, located at 540 N. Fair Oaks Ave., is about half a mile away from the school and has a community center where district and city staff are available to speak to parents, he said.
Students in kindergarten through third grade will be released at their regularly scheduled time at 12:30 p.m. while fourth and fifth grade students will be released at 2:30 p.m.
If the lockdown is lifted by then, the students will be released at the school, Gallagher said.
Parents can find more information by calling the district office at (408) 522-8200 or visiting www.sesd.org.
Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officials were not immediately available with more information about the incident.
