South Bay offers plenty for Halloween weekend revelers

With the plethora of festivals, beer walks, 5Ks and trick-or-treat events planned in the South Bay this Halloween weekend, there’s no reason to stay home—unless, of course, you’re avoiding clowns, in which case this is exactly the time to stay home. But for those who want to brave the streets, grab those candy buckets and masks and then head to any one of these fun events.

Campbell

The Campbell Historical Museum is hosting its annual Spooky Night on Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. Families can create crafts and participate in activities for free. For more information visit cityofcampbell.com/museum.

The Downtown Campbell Business Association is hosting its annual Creepy Crawly event for families on Sunday. The event will take place on the East Campbell Avenue strip from 4 to 7 p.m. There will also be a costume contest. For more information visit downtowncampbell.com.

Create your own creepy critter at the West Valley Branch Library on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Participants can create creatures out of fabric and hear a story to get them in the spirit of Halloween. Cupertino

The planetarium at De Anza College is hosting three Halloween laser shows on Saturday at 6:30, 8 and 9 p.m. The cost is $9. For more information, visit planetarium.deanza.edu.

Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, at 19624 Homestead Road, is hosting a Halloween Carnival on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Organizers are asking people to donate new small toys to give out as prizes for the games. For more information, visit goodsam.info.

San Jose

Children will be able to trick-or-treat throughout San Jose’s History Park at Kelley Park on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The scare-free annual event has become a tradition, with trick-or-treating, arts and crafts activities, rides on the historic trolley, games and crafts. Celebrate the Day of the Dead at the San Jose Museum of Art with live performances, demonstrations and art-making for the whole family. Decorate calaveras de azucar (sugar skulls) and enjoy other traditional activities. The event takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit sjmusart.org.

The First Congregational Church of San Jose will host its third annual Halloween Midnight Madness at 1980 Hamilton Ave., San Jose, from Friday at 8 p.m. through 8 a.m. Saturday.

“Broofest: A nightmare on Alma Street” takes place Friday and Saturday. At Municipal Stadium, the festival features beer from regional breweries, a costume contest and treats galore. Tickets are $45 to $65. For more information, visit sjbroofest.com.

The Children’s Discovery Museum will host a Dia de los Muertos event with special activities for children under 5 in addition to traditional activities at the museum’s annual celebration held to honor the dead. Stroll Lincoln Avenue in Downtown Willow Glen from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and discover the shops, art galleries and restaurants while sipping beers as part of the annual Halloween edition of Beerwalk. Trick-or-treat along Lincoln Avenue on Monday. The first session will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for toddlers, preschoolers and kids in strollers. The second session will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. for school-aged kids in costume.

The Willow Glen Halloween Festival takes place Monday at Dwell Christian Church. The event includes carnival games, a large slide, candy and non-candy items, and a charity raffle.

Saratoga

Saratoga’s annual Witchy-Walk-A-Bout flies into town Saturday. The event will feature face painting, temporary tattoos, mask-making and candy for the kiddos. It will also give families a chance to see more than 60 scarecrows displayed by businesses in the Village area. The walk will take place on Big Basin Way from 2 to 4 p.m.

Sunnyvale

The BarkHappy San Jose Howl-O-Week Party benefiting Silicon Valley Pet Project takes place at the Firehouse Grill and Brewery in Sunnyvale, 111 S. Murphy Ave., on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Planet Granite is hosting a Halloween edition of its Headlight Climbing event Friday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $45. For more information, visit planetgranite.com/sv.
