Car enthusiasts may want to mark July 19 on their calendars: That’s when the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce plans to showcase hundreds of new and classic cars at its sixth annual Classic Car Show.
On that day, Big Basin Way will be closed to traffic and lined with black and white race car flags and vintage cars. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tiger Teerlink, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and chief organizer of the show, promises a memorable day of shiny American and foreign cars of all years, makes and models, ranging from the 1920s to the classics of the ’50s and ’60s.
“This is the first time the street will be closed to allow more cars and vendors for the public to enjoy,” Teerlink said.
In addition to the display of classic cars, this year’s event will feature craft vendors, live radio broadcasts, live music and beer and wine tasting. Chubby’s All Stars will perform the classic rock tunes that have come to define the event for visitors. Along with beer and wine, an assortment of food will be available for purchase from various restaurants.
Additional activities are planned on July 18, the day prior to the event. For the second year in a row, organizers are offering a car cruise between Saratoga, Campbell and Los Gatos.
The event is once again being produced by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Cool Car Club of Saratoga, Los Gatos and Campbell. The purpose of the event, according to organizers, is to boost business for Saratoga merchants and to provide a fun event for car enthusiasts.
“Thousands of people attend not only to see the many cars but also to meet the owners,” said event co-chair Pat Martel. “The range of cars sparks a memory in just about everyone with a tale to tell about their first car.”
The event is open to the public and admission is free. Anyone that’s interested in displaying a car is encouraged to register for the car cruise on July 18 and/or the car show the following day by visiting coolcarclub.comor saratogachamber.org.
