A 15-year-old detained on suspicion of making threats against San Jose’s Evergreen Valley High School was released after police found no evidence that he was responsible for the crime.
A shelter-in-place order was issued at the school around 9:30 a.m. today after a staff member spotted someone he believed to be the student in question.
The student, who allegedly stated that he would “shoot-up” the school on a social media website on Thursday night, was interviewed this afternoon to determine if he would be charged with a crime, but was released to his father after detectives found no evidence that he was responsible for making the threats, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.
Police were alerted about the alleged threat at Evergreen Valley High School on Thursday night and were able to identify the student and search his residence, but did not locate any weapons or signs of a plan to attack the school.
That student, and several others, told detectives about hearing rumors of the threat, but could not show the social media posts to police.
Police said the information given to detectives thus far has been “unsubstantiated.”
The investigation is ongoing.
