The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is investigating a minor derailment that briefly left a handful of light-rail passengers stranded.
At about 2 a.m., a set of wheels on a light-rail vehicle went off the tracks near the platform of the Children’s Discovery Museum station, VTA spokeswoman Brandi Childress said.
The train was traveling south on the Santa Teresa-Alum Rock line at the time.
Six passengers were on the train, and were able to exit safely onto the platform. None were injured, and they were transferred to another train within half an hour, Childress said.
It took crews two and a half hours to get the derailed train back on track and moved to a maintenance yard, she said.
It was the last train at that hour, and there were no other service disruptions, she said.
Childress said the cause of the derailment is under investigation. Crews are continuing to inspect the tracks and are making repairs, she said.
“It’s a pretty rare occurrence,” Childress said.
