A conference in Cupertino next week will bring together young people from Santa Clara, San Mateo and San Francisco counties to learn about issues that are unique to them and offer tools to make their communities better.

Presented by California Parks and Recreation Society District 4 and its subcommittee, the Youth and Teen Recreation Services’ “YAC (Youth Advisory Council) Attack” is a biennial teen leadership conference that focuses on empowering and equipping youth and teens to improve their communities. This year’s event takes place March 10 at the Quinlan Community Center in Cupertino.

The conference draws youth commissioners from throughout the state every few years to discuss the latest issues affecting youth and teens. This year’s event will give attendees a chance to learn how to get more involved in their local municipal government and to develop positive youth and teen special events and programs in their community. A few of the workshops will address college preparation as well as health and wellness issues specific to teens.

Geared to middle and high school students, the daylong program will feature speakers, debates, workshops and networking opportunities all centered around the theme: “Seas every opportunity.”

The event takes place March 10, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road,Cupertino. This marks the first time the city is hosting and coordinating the event.
