Police are investigating the murder of a 15-year-old boy in a Salinas parking lot Sunday night.
The victim, identified as Jorge Alberto Mendez Barrera, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Fairway Market at 323 Williams Road at about 7:05 p.m., police said.
Barrera taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Barrera was on his way back to his car from a nearby store when a man approached him and shot him several times and then fled to a waiting pickup truck, according to police.
The pickup, last seen headed west on Grandhaven Street toward Towt Street, was described as a dark, full-size, late 1990s or early 2000s model vehicle.
The gunman is described only as a Hispanic man between 18 and 20 years old, with a medium build.
