85-year-old woman dies following January collision

An 85-year-old woman died on Sunday from injuries she suffered in a collision in San Jose last month, police said today.

The victim, identified as Constance Ryan of San Jose, was a passenger in a 2001 Saturn that collided with a 2008 Ford Fusion on the afternoon of Jan. 20 at the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Ridgewood Drive, according to police.

She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital after complaining of chest pain and a rash from her seatbelt. She was treated and released, but returned on Jan. 23 to seek further treatment, according to police.

On Sunday, Ryan died from injuries she suffered in the collision.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has not yet determined her cause of death.

The driver of the Saturn, an 81-year-old woman, was not injured. Police identified the driver of the Ford as Edward Robledo, 20, of San Jose. He suffered a minor head injury and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Police said alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the crash.
