Man shot in front of his home while preparing to go to work

A 43-year-old man was shot in front of his home in Salinas as he was preparing to go to work Thursday morning, according to police.

The shooting, which appears to have been gang-related, occurred at about 7:10 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of Sunrise Street.

Police said a small, gray sedan with dark-tinted windows drove up to the house, and one of two occupants shot the victim several times as he was standing by the trunk of his car.

The car then fled toward Del Monte Avenue, police said.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his chest, lower back, buttocks and thigh, but his injuries were not considered life threatening.

He was transported to a Bay Area hospital for treatment.
