De Anza students dress up as zombies to protest Proposition 23

A number of students at De Anza Community College in Cupertino are dressing up as zombies today in a metaphoric protest of Proposition 23 on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The measure would suspend California’s AB32, the state’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction law signed in 2006 by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, until unemployment in California drops to 5.5 percent or less for a full year.

The California Student Public Interest Research Group, or CALPIRG, is organizing a noontime “zombie crawl” through the De Anza campus to symbolize what it says will happen if Proposition 23 passes and the effect it will have on people, CALPIRG intern and De Anza student Adrian Asbun said.

“It’s a way of getting people’s attention to vote no on Prop 23,” Asbun said.

The demonstration was scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. on the campus, located at 2150 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino.
