Activists to march for immigration reform on Saturday

Hundreds of immigrant rights activists on Saturday will march in San Jose calling for comprehensive immigration reform.

The march, organized by Voluntarios de la Comunidad, a San Jose-based immigrant rights group, will begin at 4 p.m. at the corner of Story and King roads and will end outside of City Hall, at 200 East Santa Clara St.

Sandy Perry, an outreach minister for CHAM Deliverance Ministry in San Jose, said the aim of the march is to demand equal rights to jobs, healthcare and housing for everyone, immigrants included.

“People are standing up for human rights,” Perry said. “People are not happy about the failure of Congress to enact immigration reform. What happened in Arizona, these are bad things, not just for immigrants, but for all Americans.”

Perry said activists are also asking for family reunification and a stop to immigration raids.
