A fire severely damaged a mobile home in San Jose this morning and displaced four people, a fire spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze at about 9:10 a.m. at 1352 Sunbeam Circle, fire Capt. Chuck Rangel said. The fire was controlled at 10:05 a.m.

About 60 percent of the home sustained severe fire damage, Rangel said.

Six people living in the mobile home self-evacuated and were not injured, Rangel said.

Two men were asleep when the fire started and were alerted by another man who noticed smoke while doing laundry, Rangel said.

Rangel said the home did not have working smoke detectors and that the residents were lucky to have escaped.

“There is a possibility that…this could have had a tragic outcome,” Rangel said.

The Red Cross is helping the four displaced residents find temporary shelter. The two others live in an add-on unit that was not affected by the fire, Rangel said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
