A 21-year-old man died and another person was injured in a car crash in Gilroy Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The victim, identified as Martin Maese II from Morgan Hill, was driving a 1994 Ford Mustang south on Columbet Avenue at about 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday when he collided with a 1968 Chevrolet flatbed going west on East Middle Avenue, according to the CHP.
Witnesses said Maese was speeding and did not stop at a posted sign, the CHP said. He died from a major head injury.
A passenger in Maese’s car was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries and was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital.
The CHP is investigating the crash and has not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
