Severe weather advisory issued for Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Alameda counties

The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather advisory for Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Alameda counties this afternoon.

Residents are advised to take shelter as a strong thunderstorm moves through the south San Jose area at about 25 mph, accompanied by up to half an inch of hail and wind gusts of up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm was expected to especially affect U.S. Highway 101 between San Jose and Morgan Hill.

The advisory is in effect until about 1:30 p.m.
