A public memorial will be held next month for a 21-year-old University of California at Santa Cruz student who died in an alcohol-related incident earlier this month.

The memorial for Benjamin Quaye will take place at 3 p.m. on March 7 at the Oakes Learning Center at UCSC.

A jogger found Quaye’s body in a shallow ditch along railroad tracks near Almar Avenue on Feb. 7. Quaye had apparently fallen while intoxicated and suffered a severe head injury.

Autopsy results indicated his death was accidental, according to the coroner’s office.

Quaye was originally from Irvine and had been living off-campus in Santa Cruz. He was in his senior year at the university and was majoring in sociology and history.
