The value of a Haiti earthquake relief fund stolen from a Gunn High School classroom over the weekend was far less than was initially reported, assistant principal Phil Winston said today.
It was initially reported about $200 collected for earthquake victims in Haiti was stolen, but Winston said the sum was closer to $150 to $160, of which $20 to $40 was for the victims in Haiti. The remainder of the money was a deposit for books that students had purchased, he said.
Winston said the money was in a “secure location” in a classroom.
Officer Marianna Villaescuela said it appears the thief entered the classroom through an open window and stole the cash sometime between Friday and Monday.
No arrests have been made in the case.
