Contra Costa County firefighters are continuing to work to extinguish a fire that is burning several dozen cars at a junkyard in Rodeo today, a fire district spokeswoman said.
Seven engines and three chief officers were dispatched to the area, fire district spokeswoman Emily Hopkins said.
The one-alarm fire was reported at about 3 p.m. at a junkyard in the area of 700 Parker Ave. Reports indicated about 50 cars were burning, a fire dispatcher said.
The Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission is assisting in the effort and the California Highway Patrol is helping to reroute traffic due to a surface street shutdown in the area.
No injuries have been reported, the dispatcher said.
