The San Francisco sector of the Coast Guard received a distress call from the cabin cruiser of Sea Gypsy, shortly before 9 a.m. stating that the boat had run aground and was filling up with water with a person aboard, according to the Coast Guard.

A motor life boat and “Dolphin” helicopter were sent to the rescue of the man who was then transported to Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco where he was attended to by medical personnel. He did not appear to have suffered any injuries, according to the Coast Guard.

Pollution investigators dispatched by the Coast Guard assessed the threat but there was no immediate report of a visible sheath around the vessel, according to the Coast Guard. The vessel remains aground in the Estuary.

The pollution potential will continue to be monitored by the investigators, who will work with the owner of the vessel to develop a salvage plan.
