A woman who was killed on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in San Jose early Wednesday morning has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as Tomoko Shirao.
Shirao, a 33-year-old San Jose resident, was killed shortly after midnight, CHP Officer Steven Griefer said.
She was driving south on Highway 880 just north of state Highway 87 when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of her Toyota Camry and crashed into the center divider, causing the car to overturn, Griefer said.
Shirao exited the car and was standing in the No. 1 lane when a Honda Civic traveling at an estimated 68 mph struck her.
The driver of the Honda, a 25-year-old San Jose man, remained at the scene afterward and officers determined he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Griefer said.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
