A Carmel Valley man faces a punishment of nearly 14 years in prison when he is sentenced next month for holding his mother hostage and threatening to kill her at gunpoint two years ago, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury found Galen Fisher, 50, guilty Thursday of elder abuse, false imprisonment of an elder, criminal threats against two women – one of whom is his mother – and gun charges.
Prosecutors charged Fisher in connection with an incident on May 19, 2009 when he threatened to kill his mother while holding her hostage at her home in Carmel Valley.
Armed with a firearm, Fisher slapped and punched his mother while verbally abusing her and also threatened to kill her roommate, according to prosecutors.
Officers arrested him the following day as he was driving on Carmel Valley Road toward Carmel Valley Village with a loaded .45-caliber handgun under the driver’s seat.
Fisher faces a maximum of nearly 14 years in state prison when he is sentenced by Judge Terrance Duncan on May 13.
