San Francisco is expected to reach 84 degrees. In Oakland, temperatures are expected to reach 88 degrees.
In the North Bay, San Rafael is expected to reach 89 degrees, possibly breaking the previous record for this date of 85 set in 1986. Napa is expected to reach 93 degrees, the highest temperature recorded since 1931.
The South Bay will once again experience the highest temperatures, with San Jose expected to reach 93 degrees, possibly surpassing the record of 91 set in 1987. Gilroy will once again claim the warmest city mark with a high of 94 degrees, the hottest the city has been on this date since 1986.
A heat advisory was issued today for the Santa Clara Valley from noon to 8 p.m.
People who are sensitive to the heat, especially the elderly and children, are advised to drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun as much as possible and take measures to cool down in this record-breaking heat, Tentinger said.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued its second consecutive Spare the Air advisory for today warning people of poor air quality. The air district is urging people to drive less and reduce energy use.
Records were broken all over the Bay Area Monday, notably in Gilroy, where it reached 99 and broke the previous record of 86 set in 1992.
Both Oakland and San Francisco reached 93, breaking the previous record of 84 for both cities in 1986.
In San Jose, a record of 95 was set. The previous record was set in 1906 when it reached 94.
Napa tied its record of 94 set in 1931. Temperatures reached 90 in San Rafael, breaking the record temperature of 88 in 1950. Kentfield also climbed to 90 and broke the record of 87 in 1950.
Tentinger said a significant cooldown is expected Wednesday with inland areas expected to be in the low 80s and in the mid- to upper-60s near the coast.
