Bay Area activists will gather today in San Francisco for a demonstration against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of a nationwide “Day of Action” on the sixth anniversary of the Iraq War.
The first rally will begin at 11 a.m. at Justin Herman Plaza where activists will meet for a noon march along Market Street. The march will culminate at the Civic Center for a second rally at 1 p.m.
Among the groups marching will be members of the National Assembly to End the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and Occupations, the Act Now to Stop War and End Terrorism, the U.S. Labor Against the War, Veterans for Peace, Muslim American Society Freedom and Democrats of America.
Speakers will include Malik Rahim of Common Ground Relief, San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar, Barbara Lubin of the Middle East Children’s Alliance, Michael Eisenscher of U.S. Labor Against the War and John Caldera of Veterans for Peace.
Demonstrations will be held in other major cities across the country today as well, including Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Chicago.
