Health officials have posted an advisory notice at Monterey Municipal Beach to warn beachgoers about an unsafe amount of bacteria that was detected in the waters on Thursday.

Beachgoers are advised to avoid coming in contact with storm drain water as higher levels of bacteria, viruses, protozoa or chemicals may have contaminated it and could cause illness.

Information about Monterey Peninsula beaches is available by calling (800) 347-6363 or online at www.co.monterey.ca.us.
