Former Vice President and environmental advocate Al Gore will discuss global warming in Monterey tonight as part of the Panetta Institute lecture series.
Frank Sesno, director of the School of Media an Public Affairs at the George Washington University and host of PBS’ “Planet Forward” will moderate the lecture, titled “Our Environment: Can We Save the Planet that Sustains Us?”
Gore has been a long-time advocate for confronting global warming. He has written extensively on the subject, beginning with the publication of his book, “Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit,” in 1992. In 2006, he brought renewed interest to the threat of global warming with his book, “An Inconvenient Truth,” and documentary by the same name.
In 2007, Gore, along with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, won the Nobel Peace Prize for their effort in bringing widespread attention to climate change.
The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. at Golden State Theatre, located at 417 Alvarado St.
Tickets for the event are $85 and can be purchased by calling the Panetta Institute at (831) 582-4200.
Prior to the lecture, Gore was scheduled to participate in a student academic program at 2:40 p.m. at California State University, Monterey Bay, located at 100 Campus Center, Seaside.
