All county library district branches to close Tuesday for technology upgrade

All programs and services at Santa Clara County Library District branches will come to a halt on Tuesday to allow for the maintenance and upgrading of the district’s library and computer systems.

The library district today announced a one-day closure of all its branches so that technicians can install Horizon software, a major upgrade to enhance the district’s integrated library system and public access computer system.

Because the upgrade involves hardware and complex coordination between the vendor and the district in two different states, the district could not avoid taking the system down temporarily.

The new system will allow the library district to perform future maintenance remotely, said library director Melinda Cervantes.

The August date was chosen for the closure because it tends to be one of the less busy times of year and will therefore have the least impact on patrons.

The county library district serves residents of Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga and unincorporated Santa Clara County.
