CHP seeking driver involved in fatal collision

The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a tractor-trailer or its driver involved in a collision that killed a 15-year-old boy in Cupertino earlier this month.

The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on July 10 on the northbound Wolfe Road on-ramp to southbound Interstate Highway 280.

According to the CHP, a 15-year-old boy had allegedly climbed onto the tow bar that connected a tractor towing two bottom dump trailers and began to ride on the combination vehicle.

The boy either jumped or fell off the tow bar and was run over by the trailer tires, the CHP reported. The tractor-trailer then continued on the highway and officers believe the driver of the trailer may not be aware of the incident.

The trailer is described as a white or faded yellow tractor towing two dirt or gravel bottom dumps that were possibly white or yellow in color, connected by a blue tow bar.

The driver is possibly a white man with a beard, wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap.

The CHP encourages anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information regarding the identity of the tractor-trailer or its driver to contact Officer D. Ferreira at (408) 467-5354, ext. 271 or the CHP Communication Center at (707) 551-4100.
