Cirque du Soleil will set up its trademark blue and yellow big-top tent in San Jose today and begin creating the mysterious world of insects that is the setting for the show “Ovo,” which opens in the South Bay next week.

The show depicts the vibrant and energetic lives of insects as they work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love.

“It’s a great show for kids, very lively, great Brazilian music, it’s a lot of fun,” Cirque du Soleil spokesman Kevin Kopjak said.

The tent, known as the Grand Chapiteau, is 66 feet high, 167 feet in diameter and is supported by four 80-foot masts. It will be erected at the Taylor Street Bridge, near Taylor Street and state Highway 87, at 1 p.m. today.

The show opens Feb. 4 and runs through March 7. Tickets range from $42 to $250.
