The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office today identified 31-year-old Christian Archibald as the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a Caltrain near the San Antonio station in Mountain View on Monday.

The Sunnyvale man was killed by a southbound train at about 5:10 p.m. near Rengstorff Avenue, according to Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew.

A man with the same name, age and city of residence was due in Santa Clara County Superior Court this morning for an arraignment hearing, district attorney spokeswoman Amy Cornell said. That man was arrested on March 20 on suspicion of inappropriately touching a child at Wal-Mart store in Milpitas.

He was booked into Santa Clara County main jail and charged with one felony count of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14.

Cornell said Archibald was free on bail. She could not confirm whether he appeared for the arraignment or whether the defendant and Caltrain victim were the same person.
